FAQs: Inspections
Our crews don’t do vague square-footage estimates like some roofing companies. Inspections from West Michigan Roofing are as thorough as necessary to provide an accurate quote for your roofing project. Our team assesses the roof condition, flashing, gutters, eaves, soffit and fascia, dormers, valleys, chimneys, skylights, potential leak hazards, and more. All of this helps us paint a clear picture of your roof's needs. We then use this information, along with photos and measurements, to build an accurate estimate based on current material prices and labor costs. This way, the price you see is exactly what you pay, no surprises.
No, you do not need to be home for the inspection. Sometimes it can be beneficial for our team to take a quick peek into your attic, if it’s easy to access, to check for potential leaks or water damage that might be hard to see from the roof or the ground.
Absolutely not! While many roofing companies think high-pressure, fear-of-loss, sign-now-and-get-the-best-deal tactics are the way to do business, West Michigan Roofing has built our reputation on honest and straightforward communication. In fact, our “sales” staff consists of former contractors and industry professionals who actually know what they are talking about. Our team is there to act as an advisor and help you make the best decision for you and for your home.
Our quotes are not general estimates with padded numbers, so they can take a little time to put together. Your project consultant will set up an exact time to review your estimate with you.
We honor all estimates for 30 days, but due to sometimes fluctuating material costs, they are subject to adjustments to reflect current costs. Although rare, if this happens, your project consultant will notify you in advance so you can decide on the best course of action.

Yes, we replace skylights. We have many styles of skylights, with various functionality to choose from, including skylights with smart shades.
As part of a roofing project, yes, we absolutely offer blown-in attic insulation. In fact, while your roof is open is the perfect time to re-insulate your attic and increase your home’s energy efficiency. We do not offer stand-alone insulation services.
Answer: No, you will need a mason to repair a chimney. We regularly repair the flashing and wood around a chimney. This can ensure the chimney is weather- and water-tight where it meets the roof, preventing future damage around the chimney, but we don’t repair the chimney itself.
It depends on the extent of the damage. We are not a licensed restoration company; we specialize in roofing replacements and repairs. Thus, we do not handle any repairs inside the home. If the damage is exclusive to the roof, yes, we handle all of those types of repairs. Examples include:
- Punctures in the shingles and the roof decking.
- Damage to eaves, soffits, and fascia caused by weather or trees.
- Worn-out boots and seals around vents and chimneys.
- Damaged skylights.
Yes, we are a metal roofing contractor. We offer standing-seam metal roofing for its superior quality and long-term durability. Due to the liability and issues associated with metal roofing, we only do full metal roof replacements. We do not offer repairs on metal roofing unless we installed it.

FAQs: Preparing for Your Project
It depends on your pet's temperament and personality. When our team is roofing your home, it involves a lot of scraping noises, the crew walking around on the roof, and loud pop/thump sounds of the roofing nail guns securing down shingles. It is certainly loud and intrusive to many dogs. Because of this, many homeowners choose to board their dogs or have a friend watch them while the roofing project is underway.
On most jobs, West Michigan Roofing uses a dump trailer rather than a dumpster. Dump trailers have wheels, making them easier to reposition and move. Additionally, dump trailers are less damaging to your driveway and lawn than a dumpster. The dump trailer typically arrives the morning the job begins. If you have any questions or concerns about the dump trailers on your property, please call us. We are happy to discuss your concerns about the dump trailer on your specific property. Keeping your home and landscaping safe is important to us.
Because no two homes are the same, we approach the protection of your home, landscaping, and lawn uniquely. Typically, this involves using plywood to protect your home and large tarps to protect your landscaping. While no company offers perfect protection 100% of the time, West Michigan Roofing goes one step further than most roofing companies by taking pictures around your home, your patio, your driveway, of your siding, and your landscaping, BEFORE the job begins. This ensures we have a visible record of any damage that happens. No company is immune to mistakes. But we have always made it right with the homeowner any time there has been damage to their landscaping, property, or lawn. In fact, some of our happiest customers came from mistakes that we fixed and made right with the homeowner.
West Michigan Roofing has received continually high praise for our thorough clean-up. Clean-up starts with an organized job site and the use of plywood and tarps to catch debris. Our crew does multiple sweeps around your home using a large magnet to pick up nails and bags to pick up fallen shingles. Our reputation for excellent clean-up is extremely important to us. If you ever don’t feel happy with our cleanup, please reach out to us, and we will personally come to your house to ensure you are satisfied.
